Cooley's is good stuff, and when I'm in the very rare mood for whiskey, it's what I'd go with. I think whisk(e)y comes up often because is it's the only hard spirit that most people can see anyone drinking neat - people don't normally do that with others. I'd have him drinking gin, because a) it's fits in with the kind of English ex-pat thing, and b) that's what I drink, so I know what's good in the various different ways. And gin needs more love.
