eternalsojourn | Murder Your Darlings: Art & Fic Project

I was incredibly privileged to be part of an awesome project for

neomeruru. She drew a stunning image that was dark, violent and open to multiple interpretations (all of which made me fall in love with it, in addition to it being a beautiful piece of work). Her only request for the fic was that it remain ambiguous.

Three authors worked on fics for it, including

khasael and

hazelwine. That's the part the really fascinates me about this project -- all three of us had the same source image and the same instruction, with three very different results.

My totally informal author's note: The urge to flesh this whole thing out and tell a complete story was fierce. I tried not to have any preference for which interpretation was correct, and aimed to keep it completely ambiguous. This resulted in something rather more like poetic prose than I usually write. It's also fairly short to preserve the impact of this moment of voyeuristic uncertainty.

(This has also inspired me to write a longer fic with quite a dark premise. Stay tuned for that one.)
